You’ve been hard at work crafting the perfect blog article making sure that every aspect is just right. The headlines are attention-grabbing, you painstakingly created the best image that represents the article, you provided a perfect call-to-action, edited all the spelling and grammar mistakes, and its formatted in a way that takes advantage of SEO and other related benefits. Now all you need to do is sit back and wait for the quote inquiries to come flooding in.

Activity probably won’t happen right away. If you did everything correctly it will eventually. At least that’s the plan, but the optimization of your website takes time since the search engines need time to index the content. You will definitely see an uptick in activity on your website. However, it would make more sense to reach out to your current and potential customers. Take your content to them. There are ways to do this and these techniques can be done reasonably.

  1. E-mail Marketing – as much as we get inundated with e-mails daily, it is still a relevant method of communication. You just need to be sure that the message is of value to your target audience and isn’t formatted in a way that would be considered spam. You’re inviting them to your blog page to read, not to sell them. If you’re creating a lot of content try to keep the e-mails at a minimum, I prefer no more than twice a month with a few weeks in between to measure the analytics. If you have a few blogs that make up a series, then this gives you a good excuse to send more frequently. The cost for sending e-mails is something any business can afford.
  2. Social Media – this is an easy way to quickly and more frequently promote your content. This shouldn’t annoy your audience since people post on a continual basis on all social media platforms. If they’re not interested, they’ll just skip over you. It’s your job to get them to engage.
  3. Paid Ads – if it’s in the budget you should give paid ads a try. There are different platforms such as LinkedIn’s sponsored content and display ads, Facebook ads, StumbleUpon, Outbrain, and even Google Adwords can be used to promote your content.
  4. Marketing Materials – one trend that seems to be gaining a lot of traction is direct mail pieces like post cards. Since most Americans have been steering away from mail pieces especially with e-mail being more prevalent, there isn’t as much competition in the mailbox. As of right now the US Post Office is still open for business of delivering mail. Having a piece that a person can hold and keep gives you a better chance that they’ll read it. Why not promote your content on that printed piece? Just be sure it keeps with the overall theme and that you create a shorter redirect URL. Blog post URLs tend to be long, nobody wants to write it all out in their browser address bar.
  5. Video Marketing – each blog article could potentially be made into a short video. Promote these videos on YouTube or Facebook and have a link back to the blog article. The video marketing trend right now is hot, upwards of 85% of the US internet audience watches videos online. The millennial (25-34) generation watches the most online videos and the next generation is showing no signs of slowing down.
Content marketing can do a lot for your organic search traffic, but you need to also take steps to promote your content.
