Six Reasons You or Your Business Needs a Good Website

Whether you’re an individual or a business you need to have a good website. A website is the single most important marketing tool in your toolbox and everything else should revolve around that website. Majority of medium to large businesses are aware of this but it amazes me how many individuals and small businesses still refuse to have a website. Here is a list of reasons why you shouldn’t avoid having a good website.

  1. Image – a good website (I put a lot of emphases on the word good) represents you or your company no matter what you do. It is a reflection on your brand and should explain what you do or what you’re offering. It also showcases your work, showing off the quality.
  2. Availability – websites should be accessible at all times even when you’re not. You can’t be around to talk to someone all of the time, you need to sleep! However, your website is there informing, selling, and communicating, especially if you have good content such as blogs, videos, and brochures. If you make it easy for a person to contact you through web forms or an email address then you’ll be able to follow up when it is more convenient to you.
  3. Inexpensive – bigger companies have the resources to create amazing websites with interactive engagement using the latest online technologies. In the past, you either learned how to utilize these technologies or hired someone to do it for you. However, with a long list of available online website builders with their drag and drop templates there is no excuse for creating a good website that can be just as good as the big guys for a fraction of the price.
  4. Reach – with a good website you’ll be able to reach anyone, anywhere in the world. It depends on how you target your potential customers. People are online researching all of the time. With good Search Engine Optimization (SEO) practices you should be able to reach your audience when they are seeking out someone with your skills or products.
  5. Data – with the free Google Analytics tool you should be able to gather all types of information about your website such as demographics, geographic location, behavior, and interests. This not only helps in fine tuning your website but also to fine tune your business.
  6. Control – you have complete control over how a visitor views the information on your website and how they navigate the website.

One last thing about having a good website. A Facebook page is not a website. Yes it is free but it will not have the reach, allow you to collect the right data, or give you the same level of control as a dedicated website on a dedicated server will give you. Facebook is a social media platform that lives in its own ecosystem. It’s an important tool to have in your toolbox but it is nowhere near as important as a good website.
